About EAD
The Engineering Accreditation Department (EAD) is set up in 2004 to do the administrative work for the Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC).
The EAD as:
Manage the process of applications for approval and accreditation of engineering programme that are submitted by the Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL). Accreditation of engineering programmes is a requirement in order for the graduates to be registered with Board of Engineers Malaysia.
Liase with Institutions of Higher Learning, Ministry of Higher Education, Institution of Engineers Malaysia, Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA), Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam and other related agencies/organisations on the procedure, guidelines and process of approval/accreditation as well as other matters concerning accreditation. Therefore it is necessary to have a collaboration with universities, corporations, private institutions and government agencies on the development of engineering education in Malaysia.
The EAC is in process to become full signatory of Washington Accord. The EAD is responsible as the secretariat for this agenda. The EAD needs to obtain funding from the government to support the national agenda to become WA signatory. Promote the Malaysian accreditation system whilst retaining international collaboration with international professional bodies especially the signatories of Washington Accord.
Establish and maintain a list of local and foreign accredited engineering programmes to be used by the BEM Registration Department for registration of graduate engineers.
Respond to any inquiries and complaints concerning accreditation.
Facilitate the EAC meetings and other related meetings on accreditation and recognition where necessary.
